In the beginning it seemed like a task of undaunting proportions. Anyone who has ever opened a small business for the first time, knows what I am talking about. First one has to secure the funding, then find a place to open shop. These "small" tasks behind, the real work begins. Tearing out the unwanted fixtures and replacing them with your own, or should I say, my wife's own designs. Knock a hole in the wall here, then over there then…… Oh well, you get the picture. But, when all is finished, you look back with a sense of accomplishment, and you turn on the water, and YIKES…… Leaks here. Leaks there. No problem. We can fix this with just a few more turns of the wrench. That or break it completely off, which is more likely than not to be the result! When all of the fine tuning is done, you can go home. To await….OPENING DAY! Yet another night of wondering what you have forgotten. On the day that we opened, things started out fine. After a few patrons had been transferred from styling chair to dryer chair, we discovered that we had too many dryers on the same electrical circuit! Poof! Easily fixed by totally rearranging the placement of almost every piece in the shop. And then, running a few new, heavy duty extension cords from various outlets around the building. This accomplished, sit back and await the next malfunction. Which, surprisingly, never came. With a few months under our belts, we have settled into a rhythm and things are running fairly smooth.
