RHS freshmen, sophomores win track meet

 RUSSELL - On Monday, April 9, the Russell High School boys' and girls' freshman and sophomore track members held an invitational track meet which also included the following:
Hays High, Hoisington, Larned, Phillipsburg, Smith Center, TMP-Marion, and Wakeeny.
The Russell boys came in third overall in the meet with a total of 89 points. Hays won the boys division with a total of 198 points. Second went to Phillipsburg with 90 points.
The individual event standings are as follows:

  Individual Scores

  Boys Javelin - Devon Yarmer took sixth place with a throw of 111'7".

  Long Jump - Cedric Holloway took first place with a jump of 17'8-1/2". He defeated Scott of Smith Center by only 1/2 inch.

  High Jump - Cedric Holloway took first place with a height of 5'6".

  Discus -Trevor Favinger took first place with a throw of 122'2". This was an exceptional throw as the second place finisher threw for a distance of 107'7".

  Triple Jump -Deric Funk took second place with a jump of 35'4".

  100 Meter High Hurdles -Deric Funk took second place with a time of 18.68, which was .10 off the first place time of 18.58.

  100 Meter Dash - Brett Mai took first place with a time of 11.78. Second place time was 12.15

  4 x 100m Relay -Russell took second place in this event with an overall time of 48.63. Those running for the Broncos:
Clayton Becker, Trevor Favinger, Cedric Holloway and Brett Mai.

  300 Meter Intermediates -Deric Funk took second place with a time of 47.32.

  200 Meter Dash -Brett Mai took second place with a time of 24.76. The first place time was 24.69, so this was an extremely close race.

  4 x 400m Relay -Russell took second place in this event with an overall time of 3:58.90. Running for the Broncos: Clayton Becker, Cedric Holloway, Brett Mai and Devan Yarmer.

 The Lady Broncos took first place overall with a total score of 178. Phillipsburg was second with 169 points.

   Girls Individual Results

  Javelin -Deana Strobel took first place with a distance of 94'2".

  Long Jump -Johniln Overmiller took first place in the event with a jump of 13'9".
Rachael Harper took second place in the event with a jump of 13' 1-1/4".

  High Jump -Johnilen Overmiller took first place in the event with a height of 4'8".
Rachael Harper took fourth place with a height of 4'4".

  Triple Jump -Johnilen Overmiller won first place with a distance of 30'4-1/2".
Brooke Stoppel took second place with a distance of 28'1".

  100 Meter High Hurdles -Jennalee Mahoney took first plac with a time of 17.9.
Jessica Milhon took third place with a time of 19.0.

  100 Meter Dash -Jennalee Mahoney won first place with a time of 14.09.
Brittany Fager took fifth place with a time of 14.88.
Shannon Rice took sixth place with a time of 15.12.

  4 x 100m Relay -Russell took first place with an overall time of 56.18.
Running for the Lady Broncos was:
Audra Cook, Deana Strobel, Brooke Stoppel and Shanda Kilian.

  400 Meter Dash -Shanda Kilian took first place with a time of 1:05.35.
Audra Cook capture third place with a time of 1:09.61.

  300 Meter Low Hurdles -Jenna Mahoney place first with a time of 51.78.

  200 Meter Dash -Jennalee Mahoney took first place with a time of 29.03.
Shanda Kilian took second place with a time of 30.13.
Audra Cook took third place with a time of 30.18.
Rachael Harper took fourth place with a time of 30.98.

  800 Meter Run -Kayla Mai took third place with a time of 2:58.41.
